This design is part of my book New Ways with Crochet.

The book explores fresh stitch ideas and ways to adapt and combine them for projects of all kinds, from garments to blankets.

It is divided into five themed chapters:

  • Small stitches and gentle textures
  • New ways to play with double crochet
  • A fresh look at working into the back loop
  • An innovative technique for textured crochet
  • And my signature crochet cables

Each chapter ends with a shawl that shows the stitches in use. The Drop by Drop shawl comes from Chapter 3: a fresh look at working into the back loop.

CONSTRUCTION

The Drop by Drop shawl is worked from the center of the top down, making it easily adjustable. It alternates between diamond shapes and wavy ribbing ridges, creating a soothing, flowing texture.

Using a simple technique, the ribbing ridges outline each diamond without interruption, creating a smooth, continuous flow across the fabric from side to side.
