With this design, the duck’s body contains the egg which then ‘hatches’ to reveal the baby duckling inside that!

This pattern is 16 pages long and includes the instructions for the adult duck, as well as for the duckling and its egg. It contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way and it is written in American crochet terms.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Patons Smoothie DK Yarn (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and my finished duck measures 21cm tall and 21cm long.

For the duck you will need the following colours:
White & Dark yellow.

For the duckling & egg you will need the following colours:
Pale yellow, dark yellow & white.

A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.

Toy stuffing.

Black & pink finer yarn or embroidery thread for the facial details.

A pair of 9mm black safety eyes.

A small button for fastening the egg & a press stud / snap fastener for fastening the duck!

Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and a stitch marker. You will also need a needle and thread for attaching the button & press stud / snap fastener.
