“The name that comes to me for this beautiful shawl is Duetto. The cables in the edging are like two partners dancing, two voices intertwined or responding each other on an infinite melody or ballet”. (Ravelry ID princessegrenat)
Duetto is the Italian word for duet, a suggestive image that perfectly represents this design.

Duetto is worked top down from neck to bottom. It has an unusual construction: the top part is done as a triangular top-down shawl, but the work continues with short rows to give it the crescent shape. The edging is worked sideways joining the edging sts to the live sts of the shawl, and features an original motif of lace cables.

German short rows are used in the pattern, no wrapped stitches. The work is suspended without breaking the yarn, and two tails or two balls of yarns are preferred; but the yarn can be broken and rejoined, so yarn in a cone can be used anyway. The pdf contains the link to video tutorials for the beginning tab and the German short rows.
The “Samples_Duetto.pdf” contains the pictures and the specifics of all the test samples.

The sample in the first picture has been knit with 1094 yd – 1000 m of fingering weight 100% wool (465 yd – 425 m on 3.53 oz - 100g) and needles size 3.75mm - US size 5 .

The pattern has charts and line-by-line directions.

On download page you’ll find two PDFs:

  • Duetto.pdf does contain the directions to knit the shawl.
  • Samples_Duetto.pdf does contain pictures and specifics of all the test samples.

My biggest thanks to the test knitters for the precious help and the awesome projects!
And my biggest thanks to princessegrenat for suggesting the name Duetto! :-)

NOTE : the “Samples_Duetto.pdf” does NOT contain directions, only pictures of the test samples, yarn amount, measurements and notes. There is NO need to print it to knit this pattern.
