Duggari Mittens Junior
The Duggari mittens are worked in the same stitch as the sailors-of-the-past style Duggari sweater (our most popular pattern). The stitch is simple and quickly learned, and it gives the fabric a texture that keeps the knitting interesting.
Two versions are given: a plain ribbed cuff, or an extended cuff that tucks up under a coat sleeve and keeps the snow out.
How it is worked
Worked in the round from the cuff up. The texture runs across the back of the hand, with stocking stitch across the palm. Nothing to seam at the end. An Italian tubular cast-on gives a soft, elastic edge, though it is not required.

Needles and notions
- 3 mm US 2½ and 4 mm US 6 double-pointed needles, or the size that gives you the right gauge — long circulars in both sizes if you prefer the magic loop technique
- Stitch markers, including a beginning-of-round marker
- Scrap yarn or a stitch holder for the thumb stitches
- Darning needle, measuring tape and scissors
Techniques used
Casting on — an Italian tubular cast-on if you like it — knitting and purling in the round. Increases and decreases to the right and left. Casting on new stitches and picking up stitches. A texture pattern worked from a chart.
Difficulty
2 of 5. Of the three Duggari accessories these ask the most of the knitter, though nothing in them is difficult.
The pattern includes written instructions, a chart and links to video tutorials.
