The dulcian is an instrument of the Renaissance. It is a double reed, bass woodwind and is the predecessor of the modern bassoon.

These little fingerless mitts make a great last minute gift knit. There is just enough variation and detail in the pattern to make it interesting, but not so much as to be a time consuming project. Once you make it past the ribbing the rest of the knitting will speed right by.
