Eagle River Blanket and Pillow
In southwest Colorado, pairs of bald eagles soar above the creeks and lakes as winter approaches. Bald eagles mate for life and build their nests in January. The Navajo name for February is Atsá Biyáázh, the month when baby eagles are born, and we watch the eagle parents tending to their babies.
Cuddle under the double eagle motif of this blanket to keep you warm through February and beyond.
The blanket is all double crochet in US terms. Both yarns are carried throughout the blanket so there are very few yarn tails to weave in. The little pillow uses up the leftover yarns from the blanket.
Blanket finished size: 41” by 55” (104 by 140 cm)
Pillow finished size: 11” by 15” (28 by 38 cm) to fit a 12” by 16” (30.5 by 41 cm) pillow form
Yarn: Two strands of dk weight yarn held doubled as the main color (the colorful yarn) and one strand of bulky weight yarn as the contrast color (the soft tan yarn)
Main color (MC): 2,000 yards (1829 m). 4 cakes of Lion Brand Mandala yarn in the Groot colorway (100% acrylic; 590 yards/540 m per 150-gram cake)
Contrast color (CC): 927 yards (848 m). 9 balls of Lion Brand Feels Like Bliss bulky weight yarn in the Cocoa colorway (100% nylon; 109 yards/100 m per 100-gram ball). The blanket only uses 8 balls of yarn (872 yards or 800 m). The 9th ball is used to make the little pillow.

Hooks: Blanket: 8 mm (US L/11) and 6.5 mm (US K/10.5) for the border. Pillow: 5 mm (US H/8)
Gauge: 11 sts and 5 rows = 4 inches (10 cm). Gauge is not critical for this project. If you see the carried yarn peeking through your stitches too much, go down a hook size. If your blanket is stiff like a rug, go up a hook size.
