The Earth has music for those who listen.--William Shakespeare

Birds singing, breeze blowing, waves rolling, insects buzzing, water gurgling, leaves rustling, rain drops falling—these are all the soothing sounds of nature and are linked to relaxation and well-being.

Getting outside and away from man made noise helps to restore the mind. Sometimes I love to sit outside and crochet or knit and just concentrate on my stitches and listen to nature.

The Earth Music shawl starts at one tip and expands upwards and outwards on one side to form a right-angle triangle with a stitch pattern that is a four-row repeat for the entire shawl. The straight rows form solid diagonals separated by open diagonal stitch spaces.

I used one skein of Scheepjes Frosted Whirl (1094 yards/skein) that is a light fingering weight yarn in the earthy color “Sunny Sundae Sauce”. The colors gently and almost magically blend one into the other reminding me of the colors in nature.

Pick a similar yarn “roll” or any light fingering weight yarn in your own favorite soothing colors and try sitting outside while you crochet and listen to a little Earth music!
