Native American creation legends are complex and beautiful, and different tribes have their own
versions of how the world came to be. The common thread running through the variations is that a
turtle had a clump of earth, or slime, placed onto its back that expanded over time into a vast island where man, beast and plants flourished. One of my favorite legends, I wanted to honor the turtle in
this small and humble way to treasure always.
