When I was younger, each family member had their own Easter chicken egg cozy. We placed them up by our Easter decoration display. Over the years, the chickens got lost. When I eventually started my own family, I wanted some more of those chickens. As a knitter, I thought I could make my own. I searched on and off for a long time, only finding crochet ones, and ones that didn’t look anything like what my mom had. Eventually, my mother found one of the original chickens, and I based this pattern off of that.

This pattern is super easy. It doesn’t take much yarn, and the amount of felt needed is really small, too. These take about an hour start to finish.

The most important part of these is gauge! It can’t be too large or too small, as it has to fit over the plastic egg without being too loose. So be careful with what yarn you use. I go into more detail about this on my pattern page--I used some Bernat Baby Coordinates and had to use larger needles than with the Baby Teri.
