This is a knitting pattern that serves as a permanent cover for a life-size plastic or Styrofoam egg. The “egg sweater” is knitted in the round on double pointed needles, and is knitted right onto the plastic form in the final rounds. This results in a beautifully shaped Easter decoration! The suggested yarn has specks of color in it, and so the knitting is reminiscent of a real bird’s egg. This decoration is lightweight, and is perfect for Easter egg hunts or home decor.

This easy project is a blast to knit up, and only takes a short while to make. The finished egg sweater is not removable, and it securely hugs the shape of the plastic egg inside. Unlike other knitted eggs that are stuffed with batting, this version will never be lumpy or lose its shape! The egg sweater shows off an attractive spiral on the top and the bottom, which is created by a simple series of K2tog decreases. The best part is, this egg sweater is entirely seamless! This pattern makes a wonderful housewarming gift that will be used and admired for many years to come.
