If you are looking for a quick and easy crochet project to complete for a new baby, this crochet baby car seat blanket is a great option!

Using the easy peasy lemon peel crochet stitch and chunky yarn, this blanket works up quickly. It will provide baby with a lovely cover that will keep them warm and cozy in their car seat.

Unfortunately, Bermat Baby Coordinates Chunky has been discontinued. However this pattern will work with any weight yarn with some adjustments to ensure your blanket will fit the car seat you have. In fact, Bernat Baby Coordinates yarn is still available in a sport weight.

If you would like to find another chunky yarn, I believe that Lion Brand Homespun would be a great substitution.

You may notice that this blanket does not include slots for the harness to fit through. I chose not to include these as I don’t like anything between the baby and the straps. However, if you wish to add some slots, it should not be too difficult to add a couple of large buttonhole-style slits in the blanket where necessary.

Materials:

Lion Brand Homespun Yarn (or other chunky yarn) – approx. 190 yards

J/10 6.00mm hook

Scissors

Tapestry Needle

Gauge:

Gauge is not terribly important for this project as it will need to fit the particular car seat you have.

For reference, my blanket measures 19.5″ x 22″ and my gauge in the lemon peel stitch is 10 stitches x 10 rows” = 4″ x 4″.

This is an easy crochet project to complete. It is suitable for beginners who are familiar with single crochet and double crochet stitches. These stitches are combined to create the lemon peel stitch.
