This cute kitty is made with thick yarn I found in the discount bin. I couldn’t find any cute patterns that I liked for yarn this size, so I came up with this and wrote it down. Most patterns are designed for smaller yarn sizes, and a thing I noticed is that when you MC 6 SC or HDC to start the pattern it puckers in a really ugly way for bigger yarn weights. This pattern is easy to modify and you can attach different tails and ears for different animals.

This pattern should work for most yarns above medium (size 4) with different sizes of finished objects. This plush is crocheted in the round, but if you prefer using slip stitches to move to the next round, that should turn out fine too.

Items used:

  • 400 g of bulky (size 5) discount yarn (main plush)
  • 8.00 mm sized hook (main plush)
  • 20 g of red worsted weight yarn (face and collar)
  • 5.00 mm hook (collar)
  • Polyfill
  • Safety eyes/buttons
  • Stitch markers (for crocheting in the round)

Gauge – 5 rows of 5 sc with 8.00 mm hook – 6 x 6 cm

Finished object size

  • Head and body – Height 47 cm, diameter 51 cm
  • Arm – length 29 cm
  • Leg – length 30 cm
  • Tail – Length 29 cm

This is my first pattern. If you notice any mistakes, do let me know, and do share your FOs!
