Easy Knit Bunting
This is a free, easy to knit pattern to make 6 triangles from one 50g ball of worsted weight yarn for bunting. Stitches include knit, knit two together (k2tog) and knit two through the back of the loop (k2tbl).
This project makes a great stash-buster to use small amounts of different coloured yarn, at just 8g of yarn per triangle.
You can join the triangles together by weaving a single chain of crocheted yarn through with a yarn needle or using a ribbon. I also added bows, but that’s optional. You could add buttons, as an alternative, or even stitch letters on the bunting to spell someone’s name or a message (Happy Birthday).
Materials required:
- Worsted weight yarn: 50g makes 6 triangles
- 5mm knitting needles
- Scissors and a yarn needle
- Ribbon, or a single chain of crochet to weave across the tops of the triangles to join and hang them together
- Optional bows, needle and thread to sew on.
Triangle size: approx. width 19 x height 12 cm.
Time to knit: approx. an hour per triangle.
Yarn in the photos: Bergere de France Recycline in Orangeade colourway. 8g per triangle.
Abbreviations:
k2tbl = knit 2 stitches through the back of the loop
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
Instructions:
Thumb cast on 30 stitches.
Leave a yarn tail of around 10cm in length (you can knit it into row 2 or sew it into your work when you finish as you prefer).
Row 1-3: knit all stitches.
Row 4: k2tbl, knit to last 2 stitches, k2tog
Row 5: knit all stitches.
Repeat rows 4-5 until just 4 stitches remain.
Knit all stitches in a row 5 for the final time.
Finishing:
Row 1: k2tbl, k2tog
Row 2: k2tog.
Cast off in knit stitch.
Cut the yarn leaving around 10 cm for the tail and sew in the ends of the yarns with the yarn needle.
