I find that little girls like to play with purses and carry them around everywhere. I came up with this to make a simple owl hat and purse because it requires hunting down multiple patterns that might prove to be challenging for most beginners.

I have used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Purple Mist yarn, Caron White and Black yarns, and Red Heart Super Saver Orange yarn (because i wanted to use these up from my stash). But, the possibilities are endless.

The flap of the purse doubles up as the head of the owl and the beak doubles up as a button to close the flap. I am not fond of lining or attaching zippers to my projects because they take more time than I like to spend on any project… this way, the project is easy to complete. It took me about 3 hours total to complete both the items. The hat fits my 5 year old son perfectly, and is just slightly loose on my 1 year old. It fits me too, but is a little snug. As you can tell, the yarn is very forgiving in terms of gauge so i have not included any gauge.
