I love cabled pompom and beanie hats but whenever I looked at knitting patterns for cables I found them very daunting. They can be written in a way that is hard to follow and the cable pattern is often written separately from the main pattern or as a chart; at a glance they appear very difficult. Actually cabling is easy peasy and within a few rows you have a really complicated looking design that is simple to achieve.

My cable hat is a straightforward knit, using just 100g of any chunky yarn and 6mm straight needles. Instructions are given row by row to help you keep you place, or work out where you are if you need to put you knitting down. The cable pattern is created over 6 rows. I have shaded the pattern so you can see the blocks of 6 rows easily. This will also help you keep track of where you are in the pattern by enabling you to count the number of cables you have and match them to the pattern. You can watch the TV or chat while still following the pattern and the hat can knitted in an afternoon. I am certain that this pattern will become your go to pattern when you need a quick knit gift.

The pattern is written for an adult head approx. 21-22” circumference, stretched and is approximately 9” tall not including the pompom. I have included the adaptions to make the pattern for a child or larger head.
