The Easy Street asymmetrical shawl is a simple, fun and adaptable pattern. The instructions are given for 2 different versions of the shawl: The blue shawl in the pattern pics is version 1 and is a 4 row repeat pattern, version 2 is the brown shawl and is an 8 row repeat pattern.

The resulting shawl is a reversible, light and lacy shawl, and the magic lies in the fact that there are no complicated lace stitches to learn, just a simple wrapped stitch technique! It works beautifully with variegated, colourful sock weight yarn and the pattern is easy to remember making it perfect for TV or travel knitting.

Skills / Techniques Used – Long Garter Stitch

Sizes: One size fits all

The finished blocked items will vary in size but from the pattern pictures given the sizes are:

Version 1 – 88” (225cm) wingspan and 29” (74cm) depth at the longest part
Version 2 – 80” (205cm) wingspan and 23” (58cm) depth at the longest part

Version 1 will produce a bigger shawl due to the extra rows of dropped sts.

• 1 x 3.5oz / 100g, 440 yd / 400m skein of sockweight or 4ply yarn. The yarn used in the patterns are:
o Version 1 – Blue – Under the Olive Tree 4 ply 100% superwash merino in the Marty had a Party colourway
o Version 2 – Brown - Under the Olive Tree 4 ply 100% superwash merino in the Paper Tiger colourway
• 1 x US size 5 (3.75mm) 31.5 - 39” (80 - 100cm) circular needle

Gauge is not vital to this project - just choose your version, choose your skein and off you go!

A YouTube tutorial on how to work the long garter stitch is included in the pattern.
