The Easy Welted Hat is a very good looking and a good first project for beginners. It is knit in the round from the bottom to the top with no shaping. To close the top, holes are created with yarn overs into which i-cord is threaded. To make the hat smaller or to work with larger yarn, cast on fewer stitches in multiples of 8.

Yarn: 1 skein Fidalgo Artisan Yarn’s Beyond Alpaca (50% Fine Alpaca, 50% Wool, 100g=220 yards) or equivalent worsted weight yarn.

Needles, Hooks, and Notions: US size 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular needle or size to obtain gauge, two double pointed needles of the same size for making i-cord, stitch marker and blunt tapestry needle.

Gauge: 16 sts = 4”

Finished Size: Approximately 20 - 21 inches around, but there is plenty of stretch.
