This is a very versatile, low sew pattern. You can use any yarn you like, along with the corresponding hook. I usually go down a hook size or more because I like tight tension.
It takes about a full skein of the main color, and a decent amount of the contrast color. If you were going to make a solid animal, it would take about a skein and a half.
