Are you ready for some travels? This pattern is part of a collection of 9 tiles with nine individual accompanying designs. You can buy them separately or get them all at a great discount in the Travelling East Collection. Enjoy!

After exploring the technique of these mosaic squares in the round with Ilsan, our journey continues with Eesan, the second pattern in the Travelling East Collection. These patterns are available individually as well as bundles in an Ebook: The Travelling East Collection.

Each tile in the collection comes with an accompanying triangle (to give you the freedom to use your squares as diamonds in cushions or blankets). It also comes with an original design to showcase the many possibilities we have to turn these tiles into different type of objects. Some will be small and simple, some will be larger and require some more time. The collection of patterns will give you options and suggestions. Enjoy!

The design accompanying the Eesan tile is a table runner. The table runner is made of the same square, worked to different lengths and joined through the twisted slip stitch crochet join. This gives it a playful shape and shows how simply omitting a few rounds can completely change the look of these tiles. The sample uses a variegated bamboo yarn as the base colour with 3 different cottons as contrasting colours to ‘pop’ the pattern. An optional tassel can finish it off.

Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, as long as your tile lies flat. However, different yarns give different gauges:
Crochet thread: 13sc x 12 rows = 5cm / 2”.
Fingering weight: 11sc x 11 rows = 5cm / 2”.
DK weight: 9sc x 8 rows = 5cm / 2”.
Aran weight: 8sc x 8 rows = 5cm / 2”.

Hooks:
√ Depending on yarn choice, 2.5mm/C, 3.5mm/E-4, 4mm/G-6 or 5mm/H-8 crochet hook (Adapt hook to yarn used).

Notions
√ Tapestry needle, stitch markers.
√ Optional: additional yarn to add some tassels

Yarn:
√ A #0 lace (size 5 crochet thread), #2 fine (Fingering, 12wpi) or #3 lightweight (DK, 11wpi), or #4 medium (Aran, 8wpi) per tile:

  • approx 25m/27yd (C2).
  • approx 20m/21yd (C3).

√ The table runner was made in fingering weight with 2 colours per tile: 100% Bambou Luxe from Fibres d’Art as C1 and C3 (100g, 225m/246yd) and Bergere Coton Fifty in shades Anis, Lime & Raisin as C2 (50m/54yd of each colour).
