Notes from the Designer:

This shawl was inspired by woven fabric and the interlocking of colors in the craft. I was curious as to how I could transform the look using crochet stitches. The linen stitch seemed to be the best choice, and I combined it with a Granny Square technique to get a similar, yet unique look. Effervescent is a large shawl, and it works ideally with colors that follow each other on the color wheel. The silkiness of the yarn gives it incredible drape, and the Crab Stitch finish provides a beautiful finished edge.

  • Click here to watch a tutorial showing how to get started with the Magic Ring and how to crochet Rounds 1 - 4 of the Granny Square design, while also changing colors.
  • The sample shown used approximately 1,925 yds/1,760 m total: Color A: 472 yds/432 m, Color B: 380 yds/348 m, Color C: 341 yds/312 m, Color D: 278 yds/255 m, Color E: 249 yds/228 m, and Color F: 200 yds/183 m.
  • The shawl can be made larger or smaller by adding or subtracting the number of squares.
  • The squares are joined one by one as you go. Please see the schematic that shows the order of joining.
  • Follow the schematic for color placement. The inner and outer color in the individual square is the color you start and finish the square with. The middle color in the square is the secondary color.
