An outpouring of lace…that is what defines the Effusion Shawl. It is a crescent-shaped, full-sized shawl knit of 750 yards of sport weight yarn, although lace weight, fingering, or DK weight would also work well with this pattern. Knit from the top down and beginning with only 7 stitches, the shawl grows from an all-over Russian Cascade Lace body to a section that utilizes an interesting stitch from Barbara Walker’s “A Treasury of Knitting Patterns” called Indian Cross Stitch, and then finishes with a pointy lace edging that is formed by using the applied border technique. This border helps the finished shawl stretch out nicely to its full, lacey glory. It is over 7 feet in length, and 22 inches at its deepest center point. The pattern includes a chart for the lace body, and full written instructions with row counts for all sections, as well as video help links.
