A couple of years ago my Allotmenteering buddy planted an Egremont Russet apple tree, and has been training it as a cordon up a frame which she’s built especially. I can see the tree when I’m pottering about in the greenhouse, and enjoy the rich pink buds in spring. My Allotmenteering buddy also keeps her gumboots (wellingtons) and a pair of socks in the greenhouse, to change into when she arrives. Recently, her socks have been looking a little worse for wear. I thought it was time she enjoyed a new pair.

The little budding stitch pattern up the side of the foot is super simple, with plain knitting every other round. This pattern is mirrored on the left and right foot, and the socks are worked toe up, with a gusset and short-row heel.
