About this Heel:
Here’s a tutorial for an easy, integrated heel design featuring:

  • No short rows!
  • No wrap and turns!
  • No afterthought….just stop the leg….add the heel… resume the foot!
  • Can be used top-down or toe-up!

Easy to follow stand alone photo tutorial AND a separate pattern for an Escher pattern sock so you can try the heel in an actual project.

The fun ankle sock design uses stranded knitting to create an eye-catching escher design. Its simple construction makes it a good project for those looking to create a basic stranded sock that looks interesting…. without a great deal of effort.

Sock Details:

  • Twisted ribbing at the top provides a stretchy ribbing that looks clean and neat
  • Simple “Elaine’s Happy Heel” heel, with no short rows or wrap and turns, yea! Detailed heel instructions are included as a separate file.
  • No gusset in this design, but you’re welcome to add one after coming out of the heel.
  • Classic wedge toe construction

You’ll need 25 grams (about 110 yds) of each of the 2 colors used to make the escher design and an additional 25 grams of contrasting yarn for the ribbing, heel and toes.

Sample shown was worked with Yarn Bee “Pigment + Fiber”, sold in a palette 6 pack named “Lavender Daze”. (The individual yarns in the set do not have color names.) It is a 60% acrylic/20% wool/20% nylon fingering yarn where 630 yards weigh 150 grams

Specific stitch and round counts are given for Women’s Size Small and Medium. Guidelines are given for sizing the sock to make it larger or smaller.
