Elbstrand

“I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy as I go walking along the same river”

One of my favourite places in this world is a sandy beach on the Elbe river, close to the place where I live. It‘s the ideal place for long walks, throwing some balls for my dog, or just watch the river flowing by, the ships passing, and rest my mind.

Inspired by the fascinating rippling patterns the water draws into the sand, where a small brook flows into the river, I created „Elbstrand“ (Elbe beach).

Elbstrand is a triangular shawl, featuring stockinette, and reverse stockinette stripes, some simple lace mesh; and two wavy borders. The lower border is formed by short rows, while the side border is crocheted on after the knitting is finished.

  • Finished measurements are 79” by 24” / 200 x 60 cm

  • You will need approximately 440 - 500 yards / 400 - 500 m of your main color; I used Orange Sox Cotton/Kashmir in the color way “Sylt”

  • 37 - 40 yards / 34 - 36 m of your contrast color; Lana Grossa Cool Wool Baby in color 245 (green)

  • and about 16 - 21 yards / 15 - 20 m of yarn of each CC1 and CC2, if you decide to work two of the border waves in a different color. CC1 is Lana Grossa Cool Wool Baby, color 112 (grège) CC2 is Lana Grossa Cool Wool Baby, color 208 (light blue)
