This pattern is a One Skein Wonder!

This pattern was originally designed for the Knit for the Girls 2026 ‘Down Under’ Pattern Collection, which was created for the annual Knit for the Girls breast cancer research fundraiser.

Hannah of Circus Tonic Handmade hand dyed this stunning pink colour way, called “Hope is a Waking Dream” especially for the Eleanor Cowl as part of this fundraiser.
Her ‘Fete Sock’ fingering weight yarn was used for both the pink & blue samples.

During October 2026, 20% of pattern sales from the Knit for the Girls 2026 ‘Down Under’ Pattern Collection will be donated to the official Knit for the Girls fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation Australia, supporting breast cancer research.

As written, this One Skein Wonder uses between 90 and 100g of Circus Tonic Handmade ‘Fete Sock’ fingering weight yarn.

You can easily make the cowl larger or smaller following the instructions in the pattern, which will alter the amount of yarn needed.

The Eleanor Cowl is a seamless beauty, worked from the top down in the round.
The majority of the cowl is worked in continuous rounds, but there are also a few joined rounds to give the neatest finish.

Finished Measurements (unblocked):
Top of cowl: 60cm (23.6in) around (once the first few rounds have been made there’s often a slight decrease in circumference.)
Bottom of cowl: 74cm (29in) around
Height: 28cm (11in)

Both pink and blue samples are shown on a female adult with a head circumference of 54cm. This size will also fit teenagers.

The Eleanor Cowl may be worked at a different gauge to the one used in the sample, or with a different weight of yarn & hook size, for a different look and feel.

 Circus Tonic Handmade; Fete Sock
80% Superwash Merino, 20% Nylon
100g; 365m (400yds); Super Fine #1 Fingering weight (4 ply)

Hook size: 4.5mm

Other Supplies:
Yarn Scissors
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers x 2
Kitchen scale with grams measurement (optional)

Gauge:
Unblocked gauge with ‘Fete sock’ yarn using 4.5mm hook:
8 x (sc, ch3, sc) stitches = 10cm (4in)
16 rounds = 10cm (4in)

The cowl begins with a Foundation single crochet row (which is then joined to work in the round). However instructions are also given for beginning with a chain stitch foundation row if you’d prefer this.
