I designed this KAL around Stitchjones’ wonderful sock yarn. Her colorways are fabulous, and I fell in love with her Electric Mayhem. In fact, she brought that colorway out of retirement just for us! I used her Titanium Sock base because the colors are wonderfully saturated in it, but this is an extremely light fingering-weight yarn, actually closer to lace. So, if you want something a little more substantial, order your colors in Sharon’s Merino Sock base. They are still bright and lovely. I know buying hand-dyed yarns can be expensive, so I found a way to work three great projects from the two skeins you need for this stranded KAL. I include instructions for a hat (adult and child), socks,(adult and child), and fingerless mitts (with a full mitten option). If knitting the fingerless mitts, you can layer them over glove liners, as I did, for added warmth while freeing up those testing fingers.Sharon offers several brights, and I chose Electirc Mayhem and Incandescent Lemon. They pair beautifully to create a bright, electric, eye-catching project. Get out your sunscreen and get ready to make a hat, mitts, and/or socks. You can choose one project or do all three.
Of course, you can use any fingering-weight yarns you want, but be sure to choose two highly contrasting, put-on-the-sunglasses bright colorways. Knit Picks offers an affordable alternative in their Stroll Brights collection. I recommend using the Highlighter Yellow and Vibrant Violet or Pickle Juice with the Vibrant Violet.
