When a calf is born into an elephant herd, all the herd members celebrate the new arrival. It’s not just the elephant mom, who lovingly cares for her little one—the entire herd provides care and protection so that the baby elephant can grow up safe and sound. Given this great “elephant love,” this motif is the perfect choice for a baby blanket. But you could also make a cozy throw blanket using this motif if you knit it twice in width and twice in height.

The blanket is double knitted, so the design shows on both sides with reversed colours.

What you’ll get:
Two pdf-documents - the general instructions for making the blanket (including suggestions for cast on / cast off and a neat selvedge stitch) and a 4-page knitting chart for the motif

Material:

• Lang Yarns Merino 200 Bébé Color (203 m / 50 g) Orange-Red-Violet (Col. 155.0554) and White, approx. 4 skeins à 50 g each (for the blanket shown I used about 180 g per colour)
• Alternative yarn: Rico Design Superba Cashmeri Luxury Socks and Unicorn Solid (from Hobbii); you could also combine these two yarns
• knitting needles 2.5 mm / US 1 ½, I recommend circular needles with 80 cm or longer
• tapestry needle, scissors

Kommt in einer Elefantenherde ein Junges zur Welt, feiern alle Herdenmitglieder den Nachwuchs. Nicht nur die Elefantenmama, die sich liebevoll um ihr Kleines kümmert, sondern die ganze Herde bietet Fürsorge und Schutz, so dass das Elefantenbaby behütet heranwachsen kann. Angesichts dieser großen „Elefantenliebe“ passt das Motiv doch perfekt für eine Babydecke.

Aber auch eine kuschelige Sofadecke kannst Du aus dem Motiv stricken, wenn Du es zweimal in der Breite und zweimal in der Höhe strickst.
