Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7 (8) 9 (10) ● Level: 2/5 ● Wide-leg knit trousers are at the very core of Scandi style. I fell in love with them a few winters ago when I finally grew tired of freezing and chose to embrace pure comfort instead.
The Elin trousers feature a snugger fit around the waist and drape beautifully from the hips down. The legs flare out just a tiny bit to create a flattering silhouette. The high waistband sits right around the belly button, but by shifting where it rests, you can easily adjust how the trousers drape. An elastic band inside the waistband ensures these weightier trousers stay securely in place.

CHOOSING YOUR SIZE
The pants fit a waist circumference of approx. 60 (65) 70 (75) 80 (90) 100 (110) 120 (130) cm / 24 (26) 28 (30) 32 (36) 40 (44) 48 (52)“. The finished waistband has 3–8 cm / 1.25–3.25” of negative ease, meaning the waistband is tighter than your actual waist measurement. Measure your waist at the navel. Also measure your hip circumference at the widest point. The hips have approx. 0–5 cm / 0–2” of negative ease, meaning the pants fit snugly at the hips. If you prefer a snug fit for the pants and your yarn is dark and doesn’t show through, you can go one size down from the recommended size.

3.5 mm (US 4) circular needle.
Notions
Stitch markers, tapestry needle, stitch holders or waste yarn, 4 cm / 1.5” wide elastic for the waistband, thin spare circular needle for attaching the waistband.
GAUGE
18 sts x 26 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette St with 3.5 mm (US 4) needle.
CONSTRUCTION
The pants are worked from the waist down, so you can try them on as you go. The waistband is folded double and secured, and the back of the pants is raised using short rows. The body of the pants is shaped with increases at the back, front, and sides, then divided into legs below the hips. The legs can be knitted to your preferred length. Remember to finish the knitted fabric in a way suitable for your yarn before binding off the legs, so the pants don’t accidentally stretch too long.
