A word about my patterns: I like lots of white space in my patterns. You will find spacing between the instructions. New pages are inserted to separate the body instructions from the sleeves instructions (for example). The schematics in this pattern appear after the body instructions and after the make up instructions. As a result the pattern may appear printed over 7 or more pages. I hope this helps your following along more clearly.

The Elk Street Sweater is another inspiration from my travels to Banff, Alberta. This may be the quintessential sweater for every purpose. It is warm, light as a feather and a joy to knit. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

MATERIALS
Rowan’s alpaca merino dk, is absolutely delightful. So soft and so warm. I’m wearing it as I type this. You will need approximately 1600 - 1680 metres of this yarn and another 20 metres for your sample swatch. I bought all 20 balls and was able to make a hat and a muff from the final bits of yarn.

This piece was photographed in colour Belvoir (SH107)
The colour of Lake Louise.

GAUGE
Finished Gauge:
22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm (4”) in st st using 4.5mm needles.
The fabric relaxes a little after the first washing. It reshapes nicely after you pat it back into shape.

NEEDLES
4 mm needles
4.5 mm needles

My fast favourite cast on has become the crochet hook chain cast on. I like the shape and the thickness it brings to the fabric. It also stretches well and matches the finished neck.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
110 cm (45”) circumference at hem
110 cm (45”) circumference through the bust

59 cm (24”) length at centre back
Note: the back is longer than the front by 2”. Nice detail.

SKILL LEVEL

The yarn forgives little variances in tension, so it’s a good choice if you are working on your tension and striving for greatness. You will have a lovely product in the end.
