This airy shawl combines a number of my favorite lace patterns. It starts at the neck and works downward. The instructions are written out, and use basic lace stitches, making it a good pattern for an intermediate knitter.

I named it after a dear friend, Ellen, who was kind enough to help me proof the pattern. We’ve made it out of lace weight mohair and fingering weight rayon (see the photos) and it looks totally different in the different yarns.

The pattern can be done with any lace weight or fingering weight yarn, and requires approximately 650 yards on a size 7 needle (circular recommended to accommodate large number of sts).
