This pattern is loosely based off of Lion Brand’s Treasured Heirloom Baby Blanket but allows for color changes, with a difference in the lace sections and creates a larger blanket. I created this blanket for my daughter, Ellie, hence the name Ellie’s Rainbow Blanket. Of course, feel free to make the blanket in any colors you like. The blanket is approximately 60 by 60 inches when complete.

You can use worsted or DK weight yarn, mix and match as you please! For the blanket pictured, I mixed three worsted weight yarns and two DK yarns.

You will need:

  • Size US 8 knitting needles, circular preferred, with a 30” cord.
  • Five different colored yarns, approximately 500 yards of each color.
  • A row counter that can count both up and down. There are apps available for this.
  • A darning needle.
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Stitch markers

Techniques for this pattern include:

  • Knitting and purling
  • Yarn over
  • Knitting 2 and 3 together
  • Changing colors

Gauge is not important for this pattern!
