Elokuu Socks
Elokuu socks are a part od summer sock KAL 2024 (elokuu = August in Finnish).
They are knitted top down, with a bit of stranded colorwork after the cuff and simple twisted stitches all over the leg and instep. The heel is worked as a heel flap and French heel.
1 basic size – ideal for the circumference 20-21 cm. Length is adjustable. You can achieve the different size with another yarn, or changing size of the needles.
Gauge: 30 sts in 10 cm after blocking in stockinette stitch
Needles: the socks are worked on circular needles
- 2,5 mm needles for the main part of the sock (choose the needle size that gets you closer to the gauge or the size you want.)
- 2,25 mm needles (or smaller needles) for the cuff
- if you have a wider calf or you are a tight knitter, I recommend you to go up size for the fair-isle section
Yarn: Kalevalanka Basic Sock or any other 4 ply or sock yarn. 2 colors (main and contrast color). I recommend solid or semi-solid colors, with a good contrast of each other.
Total yardage: main color 220 m, contrast color 100 m
Notions: sewing needle for weaving in ends, stitch markers, helping needle for cables (optional) and blocking tools if you wish
