I used Red Heart Baby Love and Caron Simply Soft. But any yarn at that weight will work.

Yarn:
Mint
White
Grey
Light blue

Hook:
H/8 - 5.00mm
Yarn needle

Pattern:

With mint, start with a magic loop. 10 Hdc in loop. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1. 2 hdc in each st. Join with sl st to first hdc (20 hdc)

Rnds 3-6: Hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc and finish of mint.

Rnd 7: Join with white. Ch 1, hdc in same st. Ch 1, skip 1 st and hdc in the next around. Join with sl st to first hdc and finish off white. (10 hdc, 10 ch-1 spaces)

Rnd 8: Join with grey in first hdc, ch 1, hdc in same st. Hdc in the skipped mint st, hdc in next st around. Join with sl st to first hdc. (20 hdc)

Rnd 9: Ch 1. Hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc finishing off grey. (20 hdc)

Rnd 10: Join blue with first st. Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc. (20 hdc)

Rnds 11-13: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to first hdc. At end of Rnd 13, finish off. Weave in ends.

Braid:
Using white, cut 10 stands approximately 35 in long.
Starting around the st you finished off at, take one stand folded in half and weave through the back loop of the st. Do this in each st on the left side of the hat.

Remember to use back loops as you will use the front loop for a border which will also hide where you attached the hair

Next split the strands into 3 sections and braid. (I put the hat on a ball of yarn to hold it in place while I braided) At the bottom use a piece of white yarn to bind the bottom of the braid.

For the infant size I use a strand of blue to make a bow. On baby and toddler sizes:
Ch 81. Turn. SC in 2nd ch and each ch across. Finish off weave in ends.
On all other sizes:
Ch 101. Turn. Hdc in 2nd ch and each ch across. Finish of and weave in ends.

Snowflake:
Using whichever color you desire.(I used white because it popped more on the smaller sizes) Start with a magic loop. 12 hdc in loop. Join with sl st to first hdc.

Rnd 2: Ch 4. Dc, ch 1 in each st around. Join in 3rd ch of ch-4.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in joining.* 2 sc in space. Sc in next st.* repeat from * around ending with 2 sc in last sp. Join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 4: Picot (ch 3, Join with sl st to first ch) in joining. Sl st in next 3 sts, picot around. Finish off leaving a long enough end to use to sew snowflake to hat.

Weave the end from the edge to the middle of the snowflake then sew the snowflake to the desired spot on the hat.

To make the hat larger:
3-6 mon.
Add a 2nd increase Rnd as following:
2 hdc in first, hdc in next. (30 hdc at end of rnd)

Also add 1 extra straight round of each mint and blue.

6-9 mon.
Use the 2nd increase row from 3-6 mon. Also add a 3rd increase row as following:
2 hdc in first st. Hdc in next 2 sts. (40 hdc at end of round)

Also add 1 extra straight round of each mint and blue

To increase the hat size you can continue to add 10 sts for each size. My daughter is 8, I used 70 sts. Also remember that you will need to add straight Rnds to the mint and blue Rnds.

Any questions please contact me. You are welcome to use the pattern for gifts, or to sell the hats at craft fairs, etc. Just please don’t sell the pattern is all I ask.

Thank you!!! Happy hooking!!!
