“Tired as he was, Bilbo would have liked to stay a while. Elvish singing is not a thing to miss, in June under the stars” - “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien

The “Elvish Singing” shawlette is inspired by the cheerful welcome Bilbo is given one evening as he approaches the elvish outpost of Rivendell.

The shawlette features a repeating leaf motif across the top edge, and the Elfin Lace stitch comprises the body of the shawl. A gently pointed edging flows out of this motif along the sides of the shawlette. It is knit using a single ball of fingering weight sock yarn that sparkles like stars in the evening sky.

This pattern includes both charts and written directions. The shawlette is knit using a single ball of sock yarn. Please note that the sample used nearly all of a 438yard/100g ball of sock yarn.

The shawl is knit from the center back neck outward.
