This is another pattern meant to show off a variegated skein. However, as the title suggests, this wrap is best knit with a red/orange/yellow/gray/black yarn- something that suggests fire. I used HEIRLOOMS Fine Sport in “Jazz.” You can of course knit this pattern with any color scheme but you’ll miss out on the effect of the slipped stitches looking like tiny flames in the embers.

This pattern was sort of an accident: when I wound the skein, I realized that the variegation would not work for another pattern I was drafting (whoops!). However, I wanted to continue my experiments with variegated yarn patterns and thus, this wrap was born. Much like my pattern “That’s How the Light Gets In,” the instructions are written more as guidelines than set steps. Because each skein is different and because each knitter will use a different skein these guidelines have to ride the fine line between universal and specific. I hope that I have achieved this but of course, my Ravelry inbox is open for questions.

My final piece measured 42” (106 cm) long and 31” (78 cm) at its widest point.
