I decided at the end of 2016 it was time to do something about my out-of-control stash. My original plan was to make a simple striped boomarang shawl using some yarn that I had be hoarding for years! With family around, I thought garter stitch with simple increases and stripe pattern would be easy to do while visiting so I cast on and got to work. LIttle did I know that this project was soon going to take on a life of it’s own! The more I worked, the more my mind raced with possibilities. Next thing I knew, I was workingthe Mosaic “flower” chart as a “bind of accent”. But then, when the chart was finished, the shawl was not! It needed more. With my yarn quickly disappearing and no possibility of getting any more of the same dye lot, I knew it would need to be an efficient ending. I decided on quick decreases using fibonicci stripes. What I ended up with was a very interesting shape with multiple possibilities for draping. The one I liked best, was using a shawl pin to hold the 2 ends together and allow the points to drape giving it a look similar to a poncho so that’s what I used for the photos but it can also just wrap around your shoulders or you can tie the ends together to create a look that suits your own personal style.

This design used approximately 600 yds of MC (Koigu/white Alpaca) and 200 yds CC (Knitpicks/black Alpaca)
I think it would work well in any weight yarn.
I included stitch counts for each of the patterns used so that you can adjust the size by increasing or decreasing the mosaic pattern.

I also wrote line by line instructions and charted both rows of the mosaic pattern for those who are not familiar with the technique.
