Emeline is a welcoming knit, shaped by the quiet surprises that come from working with two different colors of Schoppel Gradient. Inspired by the graceful geometry of 18th-century ironwork, the motif settles into a rhythm that’s engaging without being overwhelming—and the gradual shifts in each yarn give every hat its own distinct expression. The structure is intentional; the palette is playful. Together, they create something memorable.

You’ll bring together familiar skills—working in the round, two-color ribbing, reading charts, simple stranded colorwork, and shaping with decreases as you craft a hat that proudly reveals its character as you knit.

This project requires about 90 yards each of two colors of worsted weight yarn. Yardage is approximate. Be sure to allow extra yarn to account for differences in gauge, yarn substitutions, or variations in yarn weight.

December, 2025 - Decreases and shaping were gently revised in this latest revision of the Emeline pattern.

This project is worked in the round and requires knitting knowledge including:

  • German twisted cast on
  • Knitting/purling
  • Reading charts
  • Working with multiple yarns
  • Decreasing
  • Simple finishing
