Emerenz is an old girl’s name in southern Germany. I designed these socks for a sock Bingo on Ravelry. The folk socks are dedicated to the table linen of our grandmothers. I remember white table linen with beautiful red and blue embroidery. In the center of Emerenz socks you can see a tree of life with flowers on both sides. The cross over the heart in the middle symbolizes birth and death as the circle of life. On the foot I knitted my initials in ancient letters. Of course, you knit your own initials! Instructions for the letters are not given. You’ll find ancient letters in old books or in your local library. You can also enjoy cables at the cuff and the heel flap. The toes are worked as star toes.
