Inspired by Emma Bovary from Madame Bovary.

“Though simple enough for book or television knitting, the novel design is fun to knit, as the shawl’s shape shifts from round to square to trapezoidal as it’s worked. We begin with an arsenic atom forming the circular motif at center (if you’re a science geek, feel free to adjust the YO electrons in each purl shell to adapt the design to your favorite element). From there, corner increases worked in the eyelet section produce a squared shape and then two tapered garter wings emerge from the sides to produce a full wrap, which is finished with a modest garter-and-eyelet edge.”
