When I knew that I wanted to knit a wheat shawl, I chose a luxurious honey color that also reminded me of golden fields of ripened wheat. I couldn’t decide on just one wheat pattern to highlight, so I’ve used 5 different wheat lace patterns in this shawl. The shawl’s name is derived from an ancient specie of wheat found in a part of the Middle East which is likely part of Iran and Iraq today. Emmer is a beautiful grain known as farro in Italy. It has long awns and hulls which give it the classic wheat head shape.

This pattern is meant for adventurous novice knitters to experienced knitters and all those in-between. Please read the entire pattern before beginning.

Yarn: 1 Skein Broken Pattern Fine Lace Silk, 880 yards, 100% Silk, Wildflower Honey

Needle: US 3 (3.00 mm) Hiya Hiya Circular needles or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 7 stitches per inch (spi) and 8.5 rows per inch (rpi) OR 22 stitches & 32 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

Size: 16 inches wide by 90 inches long

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the size of the shawl as needed.
