Please note that this PATTERN IS BEING UPDATED to a new layout. New design samples are ready & waiting to be included in the projects area. Currently only 2 stitch counts are included but there will be 3 in the updated version. If you purchase the pattern (on Ravelry) in the meantime, you will automatically receive the update when it is available.

A triangular design, ENCORE is a reversible, simple, intuitive design, focusing on garter, eyelet & stockinette. It’s fun, & quick to whip up!

This design is knit from the top down.
After a larger than usual cast on which becomes the actual wingspan of your shawl, you work a simple setup row, then decrease all the way to the end!

Very beginner friendly, this pattern is also a fabulous palette cleanser for experienced knitters who might feel the need for a break from high concentration projects. And of course, ENCORE is a great project for tv, travel or meeting knitting.

By varying how you knit the basic pattern instructions, some very different looks are possible, & information on how to modify this design to your own requirements, is included in the pattern.

There are (going to be) 3 STITCH COUNTS to choose from (currently there are 2). Add that to varying yarn choices & needle sizes, & you have several elements that influence the final size of your shawl. And YES, a SINGLE skein of FINGERING WEIGHT can be used to knit a lovely version using that ‘special’ skein from your stash.

You can experiment with Fingering Weight, Sport Weight, DK, as well as a combination of Fingering Weight & Lace Weight Mohair, double stranded.

After this design was published, I went on to design ENCORE 2 & FINAL ENCORE. And after that … well, suffice to say … there is now a bundle of shawls designed using the very same TOP DOWN method of construction. I hope you enjoy discovering them all!
