Enfold is a classic 2 x 2 rib hat knitted entirely double for a cosy, chunky look that shields you from the cold and wind. You can style it as a tall beanie with a narrower fold-over brim or a fitted style with a wide, plush cuff. You can also use the same pattern to knit a single-layer version, either top-down or bottom-up.

SIZES
1 (2, 3, 4)

For the double-layer hat, size 1 fits a child, size 2 fits a head circumference of approx. 54–56 cm (21.25–22”), size 3 approx. 57–59 cm (22.5–23.25”), and size 4 approx. 60–62 cm (23.5–24.5”).

The single-layer hat stretches more in wear: Size 1 fits a child / small adult, size 2 fits a head circumference of approx. 55–58 cm (21.75–22.75”), size 3 approx. 59–61 cm (23.25–24”), and size 4 fits larger than the previous size.

The hat is worked holding three strands of yarn together: one strand of merino and two strands of silk mohair.

Needles: US 6 / 4 mm 40–48” / 100–120 cm circular needle. Notions: 9 stitch markers.

GAUGE
25 sts x 24 rows to 4” / 10 cm on US 6 / 4 mm needles in 2 x 2 Rib, measured from finished fabric.

NOTES
The hat is knitted as a closed tube, with the lower half pushed inside the upper half to create a fully double-layer hat. The work begins at the crown with shaping increases, followed by a straight body section, and finishes with crown decreases back to the original stitch count. The height of the hat can be adjusted either by changing the width of the fold-over brim in the final hat or by trying the hat on as you go and modifying the length of the straight section to your preference.
