The English Garden Baby Blanket is based on components of traditional Fair Isle designs. It is knitted on a circular needle as a single colourwork panel with a crochet edge recommended.

To complete this project, you will need approximately 250gm of 4-ply yarn (625m), comprising:

• about 100gm of the detail colour and
• about 150gm of the background colour

The smooth finish of 4-ply cotton provides for a fine, lightweight result. The project can also be made using wool and/or a thicker yarn and larger needles, all of which will produce a heavier blanket.

The pattern includes charts for all 26 letters of the English alphabet.

The finished size should be approximately 45 x 58cm, though I recommend scaling the pattern up to get a more generous size, particularly if you are using wool or if you don’t have naturally loose tension.

If you are knitting the pattern in wool, you should consider knitting it in the round and then steeking the join. If you are knitting in cotton, DO NOT KNIT IN THE ROUND AND STEEK. Cotton fibres do not felt together like wool fibres do, meaning the edges will not be secured.
