This pattern is for a mosaic square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

You can use only 2 colors of yarn, but for a different color wing than the background color, you will need a 3rd color. (like in the image) You could also use variegated yarn for the background, or use 2-3 colors of yarn to create a striped or gradient background.

This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using 3 colors, (one for the outline, one for the wings, & one for the featured design), you will need approximately 1.5-2 oz of black, 1.5 oz of tan & 1 oz of blue of worsted or aran (wt 4) type of yarn.

Pattern is in US crochet terms.
