Equinox Ruana is a sampler of mosaic stitches that “paints” a picture within the garment. Four mosaic motifs are arranged to depict the fall equinox, one of which is a band that separates those that are thematic in nature. The garment is knitted in one piece starting at the back bottom edge, working over the shoulder, dividing for right and left front sections, and then continuing to the bottom of these sections. The reversible nature of the motifs ensures that they always appear both upright and upside down at once. I chose a 100% baby alpaca yarn for its light weight and excellent draping quality. With minimal shaping involved, it is a fun piece in which to try your hand at mosaic knitting.
