This cowl was designed for a very close friend named Erica. When I did some research, I found out that Erica is Latin for Heather, so I used that as my inspiration for this design. I decided to use a stitch pattern that represented the heather plant.

Erica wanted a luxury yarn that wasn’t a wool blend as she finds wool uncomfortable next to her skin. She also wanted something in a teal colour that would go well with her skin tone. We discussed a few different options before coming up with Debbie Bliss Cotton DK in colour 39 Teal. It was perfect for what she needed it for and looks very pretty on her.

This cowl is made in the round. I started with a picot hem and then ended with a sewn hem with a tie to tighten the cowl around your neck on a cold day.

What I really like about this cowl is how the heather stitch pattern makes the lower edge wavy. I can see this looking beautiful in a heather purple colour.

Thank you to Robyn and Francoise for testing my pattern for me!

25% of the proceeds of this pattern will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association as Erica recently lost her mother to this horrific disease. They do excellent work and help lots of people.
