The increasing garter ridges of this small shawl make me
think of the ripples in water when you drop a stone. The
exaggerated points at the increase “spines” create a star
shape and the feeling that the shawl is dripping down
your arms as it warms your shoulders.

When you’re a little girl, you name your dolls after your
friends. When you’re a grown-up knitting designer,
you name your patterns after them. This shawl is
named for my dear friend Miss Kalendar (Erin), who
loves star-shaped shawls.
