I STRONGLY advise to knit a twenty-stitch-wide sample with the intended yarn beforehand and calculate the number of stitches to be cast on based on the sample - it must be a multiple of twenty-four.

For the cap in the photos non-standard yarn is used and 144 (6 times 24) stitches cast on.
