Shortie socks are to sock knitters what espresso is to caffeine seekers – instant gratification! Okay, so maybe they’re not instant, but they sure are fast, fun, and gratifying! This simple vanilla shortie sock is designed to knit up quickly, while letting that special hand-dyed colorway (you know, that one you’ve been hoarding) shine!

If you’re knitting these socks, check out the Summer Sock Knit-Along I’m hosting in the Knit Free or Dye Podcast group for a chance to win some prizes. Heck, you’re knitting the socks anyway, right? :)

This a plain vanilla ankle sock with my version of an afterthought heel.

This is my personal shortie sock recipe that fits my size 7 foot. It should also fit a women’s sizes 6.5 – 8. I tried to make the pattern as clear as possible for first time sock knitters, but having a basic understanding of sock construction will be helpful. Pattern is written for 9 inch circulars and magic loop method for heel and toe drecreases and does NOT give instructions for DPN’s.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Yarn: approximately 30 grams fingering weight yarn in main color and approximately 15 grams of contrasting color for heels and toes. Yarn used in pattern photos is Hypnotic Yarn’s Awesome Sox base 80/20 superwash BFL/Nylon. Cuff, leg, and foot in colorway Good Morning and contrasting heels and toe in colorway Faded Blue Jeans.

Needles: US size 1 2.25mm (or size to obtain gauge) 9 inch circulars, or long circular for magic loop – I suggest 32 – 40 inch cord, if using magic loop method.

Happy knitting!!
