The patterns of the flowers are etched into the body and crown of this hat. The tones of the base yarn are so close when knit that I kept the darkest for the patterning I wanted to accentuate and used the soft tones to keep the background even.

I found myself thinking of the Hellebores flowers as I knit. It was early Spring and my Hellebores were blooming. The soft, muted tones of the yarn really reminded me of the colouring of some of the Hellebores in my garden.

Materials:
Yarn; approx. 80 m of main (light olive), and 75 m each of of 4 contrasting colours, light grey, very light green, soft pink and brown. Hat was knit with Brook Farm Fingering, a light weight 70% BFL, 30% Masham blend wool. Shades 02, 05. 06, 13 and 16

Needles and Notions; 2.5mm US 1.5 16 in circs, 3.0mm US 2.5 16 in circs and dpns, markers and the regular notions.

Gauge: 30 st in 4 inches of blocked fair isle
